NEWBURGH – Firefighters were dispatched shortly after 8:00 Thursday morning to a fire at 54 Chambers Street.  Crews arrived to heavy smoke from the second floor of a three story brick building.
A male occupant was removed from the third floor by interior stairs and treated by Mobile Life Support.   There were no other injuries.
Firefighters had to contend with severe icing to the street, structure and fire equipment due to the extreme temperatures.
The building had smoke damage on all three floors, fire damage to the second, and water to the second and first.
The cause was determined to be combustibles items too close to a space heater. There were no smoke detectors in the building.
