Hoovler:  “important that we show
that we stand with law enforcement”

GOSHEN – Friday, January 9 is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day and in Orange County, there will be a rally in support of police officers across the nation.
The event, sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Police Jason Conklin Memorial Lodge #957, will be held at 6 p.m. at the entrance to the Orange County Court House in Goshen.
The rally is being held to show support and appreciation for members of law enforcement who live and work in the county. Members of the community are also urged to demonstrate their support for police by displaying a blue light or blue ribbons on their homes and businesses, by sharing positive stores of law enforcement encounters on social media or by thanking a police officer for the job they do every day.
The event comes following civilian deaths at the hands of police in other areas following by attacks on police officers, resulting in the assassinations of several.
Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler supports the rally in recognition for the work the cops do.
“Although there are instances when I and my office disagree with police officers, and there are rare isolated instances of police misconduct, there is absolutely no excuse for physical attacks on police officers merely because they have agreed to engage in that noble profession,” the DA said. “Such attacks, and the rhetoric that fuels them, are abhorrent.”
Hoovler said it is “important that we show that we stand with law enforcement, and appreciate the sacrifices they make on our behalf.”
He said the rally will provide “a forum for the community to show our police officers that we reject the violence and hatred directed at them, and appreciate their contributions.”
