Penelope (Penny) Truex

June 28, 1947 – April 23, 2024

 

Esopus – Amidst the wake of Earth Day and in the precipice of a full pink moon, Penelope (Penny) Ann Truex, 76, peacefully passed during a beautiful sunset on April 23rd, 2024, in her home in Esopus, New York.

Penny was born in Manhattan to her beloved parents James and Victory Truex on June 28th, 1947. She completed her Masters in English Literature at Binghamton University and worked as an English Professor, writer, and in civil service. She attended several academic universities including Binghamton, Stony Brook, Dartington and Friends World College. Penny lived in several towns throughout New York including New Hampton, Merridale, Sea Cliff, and Woodstock. She also spent time living in California, England, Nepal, and Mexico.

Penny was extremely intelligent, strong willed, beautiful and had a wonderful sense of humor. Penny was an avid lover of literature, poetry, nature, gardening, animals, activism, preservation, music, art, history, crafts, antiques, her pets and her children Jeremy and Ariel. She was proceeded in death by her husband Gordon Helman.
