Karin F Engelhardt, 78, of Port Ewen passed away peacefully April 16, 2024, under hospice care at the HealthAlliance Hospital Mary’s Avenue campus.
Born August 8th, 1945, in Liverpool, England to the late Rudolf and Frances Mary (Vaughan) Tanawots.
Karin is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, William (Bill) E Engelhardt, daughters Karin (Rodney) Bunt, and Patty McGarry, grandchildren Tiffany, John, Laura, Andrea, Dennis, William, and Samantha, great-grandchildren John-John, Evan, Jaxson, and Sophia, as well as nieces, nephews, and friends. Along with her parents, Karin is predeceased by her son Billy, daughter Denise, sister Amelia, and brother Rudy. We know she had quite the welcoming committee in heaven.
Karin lived her life to the fullest and with her heart open wide. She would give the shirt off her back and make sure you had a plate at the table. She had a great sense of humor and a warm embrace to comfort her loved ones. She and her husband, Bill, were a team always striving to better each other. Their kids, grandkids, and great grandkids have been the most important pieces of their lives. Family always comes first, whether blood or not, family means the most.
Karin and Bill met in 1962 and married February 15th, 1964. Karin worked for the department of social services in Suffolk County for 27 years, retiring in 1999. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. She spent the later part of her life in Ulster County.
Karin is known as the matriarch of her family and will be greatly missed. Though our hearts are heavy, we know she is pain free and will be remembered fondly.
Cremation was held at Wiltwyck Crematory.
Memorial visitation will be held at the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park, on Sunday, April 21, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, followed by a Time of Remembrance at 3:00 pm.
