Jean Theresa Shannon
January 3, 1930 – April 24, 2024

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Jean Theresa Shannon, a 30-year resident of Jefferson Village, NY, on April 24, 2024, at the age of 94.  Jean was born in the Bronx on January 3, 1930, to the late John and Marion (Hannigan) Murphy.  A brother, John and his wife Patricia Murphy predeceased her.  Jean married her beloved husband John J Shannon on April 18, 1953.  Jack predeceased her on November 17, 1973, at age 44.

After graduation from Cathedral High School, Jean worked at ConED rising to become executive assistant in the medical department before leaving to start a family. Upon the death of her husband, she returned to the workforce working in the Bell System as a proud member of the Communications Workers of America (Western Electric, NY Telephone and AT&T) before retiring in 1990. She was a long-time member of the Telephone Pioneers.

She is survived by her 4 loving children, James Shannon and his wife Joanne of Whitehouse Station, NJ, John Shannon of Garnerville, NY, Robert Shannon and his wife Colleen of Mahopac, NY and Margaret Mary Scandurra and her husband Roy of Yorktown Heights, NY. She will be deeply missed by her 11 grandchildren and her 15 great-grandchildren along with her many nieces and nephews.

She enjoyed traveling with family to the NJ shore, Florida and Ireland and spending time with her grand and great grandchildren. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who never missed a birthday or special occasion. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Her passing leaves a void but the memories she created will stay with everyone that loved her. Her fighting spirit helped her survive many tragedies and illnesses, yet she never let them stop or slow her down.

Visitation will be held on Friday April 26, 2024, from 4-8 PM at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home located at 692 US Route 6 in Mahopac, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on April 27, 2024, at 9:45 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Yorktown Heights (Shrub Oak), NY with interment to follow at the Cemetery of the Ascension on Saddle River Road in Airmont, NY.
