Arnold Lee Sherman-King
January 3, 1945 – March 20, 2024

 

Arnold Lee Sherman-King, a beloved resident of Peekskill, NY, formerly of Bucksport, SC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at the age of 79.

Born on January 3, 1945, in Bucksport, South Carolina, Arnold was the daughter of the late Elmo and Mary (Blain) Sherman. She was also the granddaughter of William “Bill” and Lou Blain. Arnold’s early education began at Bucksport Elementary School, and she later graduated from Whittemore High School in Conway, SC. She furthered her education and obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Cannon Bible College and Seminary. The year 1987 marked a significant milestone in her life when she wed Joseph Nathaniel King Sr.

Arnold’s life was a testament to her deep and abiding faith. During her youth, she was a fervent member of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Bucksport, SC. Her professional life saw her retire as a machinist in 1982 from Red Devil in Union, NJ, but it was her spiritual journey that truly defined her. In 2000, Arnold embraced her calling as an ordained minister with World of Life Ministries in Irvington, NJ. Her commitment to her faith continued in Fort Lauderdale, FL, from 2004 to 2018, where she became a beloved leader and mentor at First Baptist Church, notably leading senior adult Bible studies.

Throughout her life, Arnold exemplified unwavering dedication to serving others. She possessed a passion for music, often singing and playing the guitar. Arnold found fulfillment in her ministry, where she delivered sermons, provided counseling, and offered comfort to those in needs. The family held a special place in Arnold’s heart, and she cherished the time spent hosting and cooking for holiday gatherings and Sunday dinners. She was practically proud of officiating two generations of marriages among her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph Nathial King Sr. of North, NJ; two daughters, Daphne (Raymond) Black of Wallkill, NY, and Donya Johnson of Bellville, NJ; One bonus son, Joseph Nathaniel Jr.; five grandchildren, and 1 bonus grandson ,Dana Charles (Annie) Rogers, Lamar (Yoli) Bryant, Laval (Peter/Rahj) Bryant- Quigley, Jonathan (Sherryl) Johnson and Dianne (Joseph) Johnson and Terrell Black; eleven great- grandchildren, Gavin, Liam, Priya, Ryker, Grayson, Artemis, Daejah, Emmerich, Kailan, Lavendar and Luna; Sisters, Betty Slater of Bucksport, SC, Dr. Annette Sherman Harrison Matthews of Baltimore, MD, Caletha (Bobby) Kinlaw of MD, and, Juanita of MD and her brothers, Nathaniel and Elder Freddy Sherman of Bucksport.SC; one brother-in-law, Fred L Graham of Bucksport SC; and Sister-in-law, Cheryl Sherman of Oklahoma; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to her loving family, she is remembered by her former husband, John P. Rogers, with whom she shared many life experiences.

Arnold was preceded in death by her parents; her son-in-law, Glenn Johnson; her bonus daughter-in-law, Alicia King; and her siblings, Daniel Sherman, Henry B. Sherman (Leona), Flossie Sherman Spain (William Sr.), Ruthenia Graham, Jane Sherman, Nemo “Cush” Sherman, and Runcie “Ronnie” Sherman.

A Funeral Service to honor and celebrate Arnold’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at noon at the Grace Community Church, 128 Old South Plank Road, Newburgh, NY, with Pastor Keni Epp officiating.

Arnold Lee Sherman-King’s legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of those she touched. In remembrance, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a soul eternally cherished.

Burial will follow the Funeral Service at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Rt. 9W, Newburgh, NY.
