GOSHEN – Since 1993, Orange County officials have been providing child advocacy services, but now have a facility at which to assist children when allegations of child abuse or maltreatment are made.
The new Orange County Child Advocacy Center, located at 30 Matthews Street in Goshen, is designed to make an investigation process less traumatic for children, said the county Social Services Commissioner Darcie Miller.
“It has a place for children and families to go for children to be in an environment that is child-friendly, for us to use state-of-the-art equipment to be able to do forensic interviews, where a child does not have to be retraumatized or retell their story multiple times. We can record those interviews and share them with the stakeholders,” she said.
“There is no more important work than protecting and helping children who have been the victims of crime,” said District Attorney David Hoovler. “The best way to do that is through the type of coordinated multidisciplinary approach that this Child Advocacy Center is designed to provide.”
