Fatal shooting in Nyack

NYACK – One man is dead another is in custody following a shooting in downtown Nyack Sunday evening.

Orangetown Police say a man was killed Sunday night after being shot on Main and South Franklin Streets.

One witness says he saw two men leaving a bar on Main Street in the midst of a heated argument.

“I saw some guys got into a scuffle in front the bar over here and the scuffle ended coming into the street. It escalated after that. Someone pulled out a gun and someone lost their life,” he said.

The witness said he heard four or five shots ring out around South Franklin Street and he ducked for cover.

Police from Orangetown, Clarkstown, and Piermont swarmed the area and set up a large crime scene.

Police say the unidentified victim was rushed to nearby Nyack Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect was caught more than an hour later, according to investigators who said there is no danger to the public.

Detectives from the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office were on scene assisting with the investigation.
