KINGSTON – The state’s authorization of an additional 235 beds in the Health Alliance Kingston campus will help as the anticipated surge of the coronavirus occurs, Ulster County Executive Patrick Ryan said Wednesday.
He is also looking to create one, and possibly two, field hospitals.
“We have been preliminarily planning at the county level in coordination with Health Alliance on how we might do that. I have set an initial goal of having up to 200 additional beds. This would be for pre, or possibly, post-hospital additional surge capacity, something we hoped wouldn’t need, but at least we want to be leaning forward and ready to do,” he said. “So, right now we have a plan that we are working to add 100 of those in the next few weeks and possibly get up to 200 if needed.”
Ryan also said he has ordered that no permits be issued for summer youth camps for at least the time being.
