GOSHEN – Orange County Government will receive over $110,000 in state health department funds for Ebola preparedness.
County Health Commissioner Dr. Eli Avila told the county legislature’s Health and Mental Health Committee the county will use the funds in the event of a related emergency, said committee Chairman Michael Anagnostakis.
“It’s just a preparedness type of grant and it goes out to all the counties,” Anagnostakis said. “I think [Dr. Avila] was saying they will keep some of it in reserve just in case anything pops up, in case you have to quarantine anybody, but nothing imminent. There is no trouble right now. It’s just a program the state put in place last year.”
As a formality, the county must vote to accept the grant from Albany.
