TOWN OF PUOGHKEEPSIE – The Fairview Fire District was dispatched for a reported fire at Eastern Metal Recycling Saturday morning. Upon arrival, firefighters found a vehicle well involved with fire in the compactor at the site. Firefighters were able to knock down the fire in the compactor/baler and then had the vehicle removed to continue extinguishment.
Agencies assisting at the scene included the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department and the Town of Poughkeepsie Police. Relocating to the Fairview Fire station was the Roosevelt Fire District.
There were no injuries. Firefighters left about an hour after arrival. The fire has been determined to be accidental.
