Man charged with setting off explosive device

Saugerties Police Chief Joe Sinagra has been placed on paid administrative leave.

SAUGERTIES – A 26-year-old Town of Saugerties man has been charged with throwing an explosive device onto the front yard of a victim’s home, creating a large hole in the yard after it exploded.

The incident occurred in Mount Marion Park in October 2022.

Saugerties Police investigated and on the afternoon of June 7 of this year, they arrested Tyler Brinkhuis of 2917 Route 9W on a charge of felony criminal mischief for allegedly throwing the explosive.

He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance pending a future court appearance.
