POUGHKEEPSIE – Rebuilding Together Dutchess County (RTDC) recently celebrated its 30th anniversary by combining its annual “CHIP in to rebuild” golf tournament with a post-tournament dinner that was open to the public.
The golf tournament, according to RTDC board member Joe Ciardi, was made possible by the support of several major sponsors and the golfers themselves. “Our corporate sponsors such as GKontos Roofing and Mid-Hudson Construction Management (MHCM) work with us throughout the year doing repairs and they continue to support our efforts by sponsoring our annual tournament.”
The 501c3 non-profit RTDC helps homeowners by providing critical repairs, accessibility modifications, and energy efficiency improvements for low-income homeowners, including seniors, persons living with disability, families with children, and active or retired members of the armed services.
These services are provided at no cost to the homeowner. The work performed ensures that qualified low-income homeowners live independently in warm, safe, healthy, and dry homes. Approximately two-thirds of RTDC projects are done for older adults seeking to safely age in place in their homes.
RTDC Executive Director Darcy McCourt noted that the tournament raises thousands of dollars for the organization but donations throughout the year are equally important. “We rely on our donors, volunteers, and corporate partners to improve the lives of others and we need support to continue our life-changing work.”
RTDC participates in the National Rebuilding Day program, held on the last Saturday of each April. The program takes a whole-house approach including replacing a roof or windows, addressing electrical or plumbing issues, fixing a porch, installing a ramp, or making bathroom accessibility modifications.
Since RTDC’s founding in 1992, over 14,100 volunteers have been engaged in assisting over 1,050 Dutchess County homeowners with critical home repairs and accessibility modifications valued at over $7.5 million in market value.
