Unemployment continues to plummet in region

ALBANY – Unemployment in the Hudson Valley/Catskills fell by more than 50 percent in July when compared to the same month last year, the State Labor Department reported on Tuesday.

Regionwide, unemployment in July was at 5.3 percent, up from 5.0 percent in June and 12.5 percent in July 2020.

Columbia County had the lowest rate of joblessness in July at 4.2 percent.

Putnam County followed at 4.8 percent unemployment.

Dutchess and Rockland counties each had 5.1 percent joblessness in July.

Sullivan and Ulster counties each had 5.2 percent joblessness while Orange County had 5.3 percent unemployment.

Westchester had 5.4 percent joblessness with Greene County coming in at 5.6 percent unemployment.
