POUGHKEEPSIE – A 22-year-old Town of Poughkeepsie resident is facing several felony charges after the Dutchess County Drug Task Force arrested him at his home on Thursday morning.  The arrest was the result of an investigation into the illegal sale of drugs in the Poughkeepsie area.

An investigation by the task force identified Jaylen Shaw as a suspect in the sale and distribution of crack cocaine in the Poughkeepsie area.  Task force agents executed a search warrant at Shaw’s Pendell Commons residence on April 18 and seized a loaded illegal handgun, thousands of rounds of ammunition, crack cocaine, and cash.  Detective Sergeant Adam Harris noted that the drugs were packaged and ready for distribution when agents discovered the narcotics.

Shaw was arrested and charged with the felonies of criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a firearm, and criminal sale of a controlled substance.  He was arraigned in the Town of Poughkeepsie Justice Court and released with an appearance ticket as a result of the New York Bail Reform law.

Harris told Mid-Hudson News that his agents have seized seven illegal handguns thus far in 2024.  They have also recovered a large quantity of fentanyl, and cocaine.  The ask force was assisted in Thursday’s raid by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department.
