POUGHKEEPSIE – Work is set to begin on or about April 18 to replace a bridge on Old State Route 22 (CR-6) in the Town of Dover, the Dutchess County Public Works Department announced.

The bridge, located over the Swamp River between the intersections of Jordyn Lane and Sherman Hill Road, will be replaced to ensure the safety and stability of the bridge and roadway.

During construction, Old State Route 22 will be closed at the bridge site with a detour posted along Lime Kiln Road, Maple Lane, and Mill Street. View a map of the detour.

The project is expected to be complete, with the road and bridge open to traffic, by the end of 2024.

Project work will involve replacing the structure with a new, wider bridge that will include four-foot shoulders and widen the travel lanes to match the roadway.

To reduce risk of flooding and potential damage to the bridge and roadway due to the increasing intensity and frequency of major storms, the bridge span will also be raised approximately three feet.

That section of Old State Route 22 averages approximately 779 vehicles per day. Motorists are advised to plan for additional time and to exercise extra caution near the construction site and on the detour, obey the posted speed limits, traffic advisory signs, and the directions from flaggers near the work zone to ensure the safety of workers and other motorists.
