MID-HUDSON –
Just as the eclipse began Monday, clouds rolled in and obscured much of the view in the region, but people nonetheless came out to watch what they could.  Observers in the Poughkeepsie area did not experience the cloud-obstructed views as several onlookers gathered on the top level of the Financial Parking Deck to watch the astronomy show.

At SUNY Orange in Middletown, the large turnout included college President Dr. Kristine Young.  “This is super exciting. You can see that we have students, we have community members on the green, we have VIPs from the community on the green,” she said.

Others around the area were excited for a chance to see the eclipse.  “I think it’s pretty cool, but I wish the clouds would stop,” said one resident. “It’s once in a lifetime; it’s pretty cool to watch,” said another.

Other areas of the northeast were treated to a much better show as the moon completely covered the sun, darkening the daytime sky.
