MONSEY- A Spring Valley man was arrested on Thursday by Town of Ramapo Police and charged with assault as a hate crime following a dispute stemming from a food delivery order.
Police say that 32-year-old Wensley Volcy was working as a delivery driver for an online food service when he was provided an incorrect address for a delivery. Due to the incorrect address the order was delayed and when Volcy finally delivered the order to the proper address, he allegedly used anti-Semitic language toward the customer.
Following Volcy’s comments, the customer went to the rear of the vehicle in an attempt to photograph the license plate, and the driver placed the vehicle in reverse and intentionally struck the customer. He then fled the scene. The victim sustained minor injuries and refused medical attention.
Following an investigation, police arrested Volcy and charged him with two additional crimes, criminal possession of a weapon and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. He was arraigned, bail was set at $5,000, and he was sent to Rockland County Jail pending future court appearances.
