CARMEL – Putnam County Sheriff Kevin McConville Tuesday announced the March 29 arrest of Mahopac resident John Towers, 53, on multiple child porn charges following an investigation that began in February.  McConville says his investigators received a tip from a Carmel resident who was in possession of child pornography and the investigation was launched.

Sheriff’s deputies and investigators executed several search warrants and were assisted by sheriff’s office electronics storage detection K9, Hannah.

Following the evidence collection, Towers was charged with two felony counts of promoting a sexual performance by a child, three felony counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child, and a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child.

Following his arraignment in Carmel Justice Court, Towers was remanded to the Putnam County Jail on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.

Sheriff McConville is asking anyone who may have information relevant to this investigation or Towers to contact the sheriff’s office tipline at 845-808-4377.
