ALBANY – A 21.3 million infrastructure improvement project on the Thruway in Ulster and Greene counties is underway.

The work includes full and partial depth repairs, along with pavement resurfacing on a 15.5-mile section of the highway between exit 19 at Kingston, Route 28 and the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge to exit 20 at Saugerties, Woodstock and Route 32.

Some 40,000 motorists use that stretch of the highway in both directions every day.

“The Thruway Authority is investing in critical infrastructure projects to enhance safety and extend the life of the roadway, keeping the Thruway one of the safest superhighways in the nation,” said Thruway Acting Executive Director Frank Hoare.  “Toll dollars are invested back into the Thruway system ad our capital program, to enhance safety and improve the riding experience for motorist.”

Callahan Industries of Albany is the project contractor following a competitive bidding process.

The work is expected to be completed in the fall of 2024.
