MONTICELLO – A last minute public hearing Wednesday on the Sullivan County Legislature’s plan to require vaccinations against several viruses for all camp goers and staff this coming summer drew a large crowd.

The campers and staff will have to show written documentation that they received shots against diphtheria and tetanus; Hepatitis B; measles, mumps and Rubella; polio; chicken pox; meningococcal conjugate; Hep B flu; and pneumococcal conjugate.

Legislature Chairwoman Nadia Rajsz said after the session that the lawmakers listened to concerns and recommendations and will likely “soften” some of the issues.

“Everybody was fine with the immunizations of the children, they’re all school age so they do have their vaccinations, but it’s a matter of staff who come in and leave after two or three weeks. You have this turnover and keeping the paperwork as well as the $2,000 if there were some inconsistencies in the paperwork,” she said.

The legislature is expected to discuss the issue today (Thursday) and may come up with a consensus plan.
