CORNWALL- In early 2017, Congress passed the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act, establishing March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day.  The holiday is also known as “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day” and in honor of those who served during the Vietnam era, the Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties will host its fourth annual “Thank You” and Memorial Ceremony on March 29 at 10 a.m. at the Cornwall Yacht Club.

National Vietnam War Veterans Day is the hero’s welcome many veterans never received and is an opportunity to recognize and give thanks to those who served during the Vietnam War,  including those who were wounded, gave their lives, or went missing.

The ceremony beings with a prayer and includes the reading of names of the 78 individuals from Orange and Sullivan County who never came home from the  Vietnam War.  The ceremony concludes with the  playing of Taps.

Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties is a community partner of “We Honor Veterans,” a campaign developed by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs.  This program  gratefully acknowledges the military, its servicemen and women, and their families and aims to create a Veteran-centered organization through education, strategic partnerships, resources, and Veteran  recognition.

The event is free and open to the public.

Additionally, if you or someone you know could benefit from hospice care, please contact Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties at 845-561-6111 or visit their website at www.hospiceoforange.com
