NEW PALTZ- Historic Huguenot Street’s 1799 House in New Paltz has been selected as a 2024 Americana Corner Preserving America Grant Program recipient and has received $7,500 in grant funding for the site’s 1799 House.

The grant will be used for the first phase of a comprehensive preservation project which aims to restore the 1799 House to a safe state so that it can be reopened to the public.  The objective is to eventually integrate the house into the daily tour and use it for exhibit and programming space.

As the only house on the site whose architecture reflects the time between the American Revolution and the Civil War, the 1799 House provides the opportunity to interpret and discuss cultural changes in the Hudson River Valley post-Revolution through the Civil War, a critical period in American history and once complete will be a significant enhancement to the historic property.
