MARLBORO – A woman pushing a man in a wheelchair across Route 9W in Marlboro just before 9:30 p.m. on Friday, March 1, was struck and killed by an oncoming vehicle, State Police said on Tuesday.  The man in the wheelchair was also killed.

Police said the preliminary investigation revealed that Donna Cristallo, 72, of Kingston, was pushing Stephen Celuch, 75, also of Kingston, from the east side of Route 9W to the west side.

When they entered the southbound lane of traffic, a 2020 Kia Forte going south struck both of them.

Celuch was pronounced dead at the scene and Cristello was transported by EMS to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the car drove away from the scene but was stopped by Town of Newburgh Police on North Plank Road. She was identified as Angela Fischl, 25, of Newburgh.

The investigation is continuing into the accident and any contributing factors, police said.
