DUTCHESS COUNTY – Dutchess County Legislator and Chairman of the Public Safety Committee Rob Faust, a retired cop, has been facilitating donations from the public sector to assist various police agencies and programs.  The first-term lawmaker said he has been meeting with various law enforcement departments to learn what issues they consider to be priorities that need to be addressed.  Along the way, he noted, he has come across a widespread need for various items that are needed, but not in the agency’s budget.

“I am a retired police officer and I know that needs within departments exist but funding does not make it possible to address those needs.  If I can spend a few minutes to facilitate a donation that will assist the officers, and possibly streamline their station work, I am glad to help,” Faust said.

Faust worked with the Wappinger BJ’s Wholesale Club to arrange a donation of shelving units for the Wappinger barracks of the New York State Police.  “Assistant Club Manager Kieran Kennedy and BJ’s ‘showed some love’ to the troopers when state police investigators arrived at the club on Valentine’s Day to pick up the storage units that will be erected in a storage room at the barracks.  “Senior Investigator Mike Dolcemascolo and Investigator Andrew Hettinger did the physical lifting of the shelving, with Mr. Kennedy lending a hand,” Faust added.  “I was just there to lend a hand if it was needed.”

Faust was a member of a police explorers club before he became a sworn officer and routinely shares his experiences with the members of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office PBA Explorers Post 108.  On Thursday, Faust joined members of the post and their advisors, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Detective Kurt Twaddell and Sergeant Alonzo Montanya to present a $3,000 check from a private citizen who heard about the program from Faust.

“Starting as an explorer at the age of 14 gave me the foundation I needed for my police career. It is extremely important to give back to the community and keep this program going in the right direction, and the confidential donor wanted to help support the program flourish,” he said.
