WAPPINGER- An informational skilled trades fair is coming to the Roy C. Ketcham High School this April to allow local students and young adults to learn more about different careers.  Representatives from various trades will be on hand at this free event to answer questions and provide information about career opportunities.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the school located at 99 Myers Corners Road in Wappinger.   The free event is open to the public and students from across Dutchess County are encouraged to attend.  It is a walk-in event; student registration is not required.

“As someone who did not take the traditional career path, I am thrilled to again partner with the Wappingers Central School District to host an informational Skilled Trades Fair to show students and young adults different opportunities here in our local community,” said Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino.

Business, education, and government must continue to work collaboratively by developing effective partnerships to provide our students with the necessary information, skills, and training to enter these fields and address our collective workforce development needs,” said Dr. Dwight Bonk, Superintendent of the Wappingers Central School District.

Serino, who previously served as State Senator, previously held skilled trade fair events in both Wappinger and Hyde Park that attracted nearly 1,000 attendees and family members.

“There is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach when it comes to determining your future, and this event is all about showing additional possibilities that are available so we can ensure they are as prepared as possible.  Our community is home to so many unique opportunities, especially in the trades, and that also often comes with great-paying careers and potential for growth,” concluded Serino.

Local trade organizations and businesses are encouraged to participate.  There is no fee and those interested can complete a participation form online or contact the Dutchess County Executive’s Office by calling 845-486-2000 or emailing CountyExec@dutchessny.gov.  Space is limited and spots will be secured on a first-come, first-served basis.  Participation form submission deadline is Friday, April 12th.
