MONTICELLO – Healthy Kids of Monticello and Liberty is in the process of converting classrooms designed for toddlers to help families affected by the closing of Sullivan County Head Start.

The tuition-based daycare provider is offering to pick up some of the slack since the government-funding program shut down a week ago, said Lindsay Decker, regional director of Healthy Kids.

“Our staff are qualified. They have anywhere from a child development accreditation, they have childcare knowledge, they have the experience,” she said. “Our director here at 518 Broadway actually came from Head Start and she knows how to handle the program curriculum.

Decker said her organization accepts Department of Social Services subsidies and can assist parents in securing financial aid.
