MONTICELLO – The Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office, in conjunction with local police departments, has hired a county crime analyst pursuant to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) designation by the US Office of National Drug Control Policy.

This position will facilitate data-driven investigations into narcotics and violent crimes through statistical and mapping tools and provide critical incident response support to develop leads and information.

The crime analyst will obtain and provide information from local law enforcement agencies, the 10 crime analyst centers across the state, and all crime analyst centers nationwide.

The analyst will be headquartered in the Hudson Valley Crime Analyst Center located in the neighboring Orange County Emergency Services Center in Goshen.

The individual will work under the auspices of the DA’s office.

The position is funded by the New York County District Attorney’s Office.

Sullivan DA Brian Conaty submitted the HIDTA application to the federal government in March of last year; it was approved in July.

“This analyst is directly assigned to Sullivan County and will provide law enforcement with the critical tools and information desperately needed to combat this opioid epidemic that has disproportionately affected our county,” Conaty said.
