MIDDLETOWN- SUNY Orange President Dr. Kristine Young recently announced the hiring of Dr. Mayda Gonzalez-Bosch as the College’s new associate vice president for health professions, to oversee the degree programs within SUNY Orange’s Health Sciences and Wellness academic community.
Gonzalez-Bosch, having begun her new role on Jan. 24, was most recently the Associate Dean of Health Professions at Bergen Community College for the past five years. At SUNY Orange, she will combine academic oversight of a growing healthcare division with the development of meaningful new programs. Identifying grant opportunities and scoping new areas of related curriculum and pedagogical development will also be among the top priorities.
Reporting to Provost Dr. Erika Hackman, she will oversee the following academic departments: Clinical Laboratory Science, Dental Hygiene, Diagnostic Imaging, Movement Science, Nursing, Occupational Therapy Assistant and Physical Therapist Assistant. In addition, Gonzalez-Bosch will be exploring, developing and governing grants and other external funding sources while helping to formulate and implement academic plans and assessments.
“We are at an exciting and pivotal point with our health professions programs. Our students continue to post outstanding first-time pass rates on their licensure exams, and we just expanded our Newburgh nursing program by 50 percent,” Hackman said. “We see other opportunities for growth, both in our existing programs as well as potential new degree programs, and Dr. Gonzalez-Bosch’s experience and leadership will be instrumental in helping SUNY Orange continue to be a leader in healthcare education.”
Pursuing a Higher Education Leadership doctorate degree from Manhattanville College, Gonzalez-Bosch has her medical degree from Serafin Ruiz De Zarate Ruiz Medical School (Villa Clara, Cuba). She is a member of the ACPA College Student Educators International, the Private Career Schools Association and the National Healthcareer Association.
A Graduate Assistant in the Educational Leadership Department at New Jersey City University from 2022 to 2023, Gonzalez-Bosch governed research and colleague collaborations, data collection and review, while collaborating with doctoral researchers and professors in the education leadership field. While at Bergen Community College, she created program models for all partners in the Health Professions Apprenticeship Grant, as well as for other grants (including a New Jersey Pathways grant).
With more than 18 years of progressive experience and accomplishments in higher education, the professional trajectory of Gonzales-Bosch includes 15 years as an adjunct faculty member at the Eastern School of Acupuncture Master Program, where she was “Instructor of the Year” in 2017; five years as an allied health lead instructor; and “Instructor of the Year” in 2012 at Saint Paul’s School of Nursing; five years of online faculty experience at Berkeley College; and four years as an education supervisor at Lincoln Technical Institute.
