Bogus arrest order

MONTICELLO – The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a new scam targeting county residents.

Victims are being contacted by email and told that an “Order of Arrest” has been issued and that they can pay the bail over the phone using a Green Dot money card or other prepaid debit card.
Undersheriff Eric Chaboty said there is no such thing as an “Order of Arrest” and the names of the judge, trial court administrator and arresting officer are completely fake.
Potential victims of this scam may also be contacted by telephone by a Sergeant Mike Parsons, Sergeant Thomas or a Sergeant Elliot Brooks. None of these people work for the sheriff’s office or anywhere else in Sullivan County. Residents are asked to remain vigilant and contact the sheriff’s office if they suspect any suspicious activity.
