KINGSTON – RUPCO, as local administrator for New York State Homes and Community Renewal, will open an Ulster County Housing Choice Voucher waiting list – Section 8 – exclusively for the homeless. The wait list will be open from January 30 thr0ugh February 13.

The Housing Choice Voucher Program provides rental assistance for families with low or modest incomes to enable them to choose and lease affordable, privately owned rental housing. The participant’s rent is limited to 30 percent to 40 percent of their adjusted monthly income, and a subsidy covers the remaining portion.

Starting on January 30, applicants can download an application from www.rupco.org or pick up a copy at RUPCO’s office at 289 Fair Street in Kingston.

Eligible applications received will be entered in a lottery to determine placement on the waitlist. Applicants will receive a written notice by March 31 confirming their eligibility and if they are added to the waitlist. If selected, applicants must live and use the Housing Choice Voucher in Ulster County for the first 12-month period.

RUPCO administers the program in Ulster and Greene counties.
