POUGHKEEPSIE – Longtime public servant Gregg Pulver, who just ended his six-year tenure as Chairman of the Legislature on December 31, has reported to his new position as Dutchess County Comptroller.  Pulver, a Republican from Pine Plains is filling the vacancy created when Democrat Robin Lois resigned as the comptroller for Dutchess to become a Deputy New York State Comptroller under Tom DiNapoli.

The last audit conducted by Lois was for the Hudson Valley Regional Airport.  The audit, showing a trend of financial losses for the county-owned airport, can be found here.

Pulver said he is looking forward to his new duties.

“There is a misunderstanding that the comptroller should be an adversary – and they’re really not an adversary – they are a tool that the county government can use to make sure things are done right.”

Pulver served six years on the Pine Plains school board and 12 years as Pine Plains town supervisor before spending a decade in the legislature.  “The comptroller’s job is important,” he said.  We look at certain things and make sure the money is spent well.”

In addition to vetting contracts with outside vendors, Pulver’s office is responsible for the payroll of the county workforce.  “We review the county payroll every two weeks – we’re another set of eyes.”

Pulver has brought fellow Pine Plains resident, Ibis Guzman, to his office, naming the Pine Plains Town Justice his Deputy Dutchess County Comptroller.  Guzman, with a career in banking, also serves as a Trustee for SUNY Dutchess.
