CITY OF HUDSON – A City of Hudson man has been remanded to the Columbia County Jail on felony charges of robbery and burglary in connection with a Christmas Eve break-in at a residence in the Hudson Terrace Apartments.

City police responded just before 7 p.m. but were redirected to another ongoing call involving a man, later identified as El-Shamar Thorton, who was reportedly knocking on apartment windows in the area while wearing only his underwear.

When police located Thorton, they identified him as the suspect in the reported break-in. The victim told police Thorton forcibly entered her apartment, stole her cellphone and then undressed in the common hallway.

Greenport Rescue Squad transported Thorton to Columbia Memorial Health Hospital for medical treatment after which he was taken to police headquarters and booked.

He was being held pending a mental health evaluation.
