MONTICELLO – The new Sullivan County Legislature has named Democrat Nadia Rajsz as the chair of the lawmaking body.  Rajsz won the top spot with the support of seven of the nine legislators with Republican Terry Bernardo and Democrat Luis Alvarez voting against her.

She is one of the legislature incumbents who won reelection as is the first female legislature chair since Leni Binder served in 2003.

“I am hoping I can bring a new perspective, a breath of fresh air, into our legislaive body,” Rajsz said.

In a bipartisan move, the Democratically controlled legislature selected Republican Joe Perrillo as vice-chairman.  Perrillo, a Republican, was cross-endorsed by Democrats in his recent reelection bid.

The lawmakers also named retired Orange County Court Judge Robert Freehill as acting county attorney until a permanent county attorney is named.
