NEWBURGH – State Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson (D, Newburgh) is commending the US Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed rule requiring all lead service lines to be replaced.

Jacobson, who represents the cities of Newburgh and Poughkeepsie, has been pushing for the funding and requirements to replace those waterlines.

“Lead poisoning impedes brain and bone development in children and contributes to cardiovascular and fertility issues in adults,” he said. “Quite simply, there is no safe level of lead and this is going to go a long way.”

Jacobson has been pushing on the state level for additional funding to pay for lead waterline removal.
