GREENBURGH – FEMA has awarded the Town of Greenburgh a $541,000 grant to fund environmental analyses and feasibility studies to develop solutions for 100-year flood mitigation related directly to Hartsdale Brook.

The brook has historically been susceptible to major flooding during significant rainfall events causing severe damage to area businesses and multi-family buildings in the area. There have been several recent events that have caused flooding in the area.

Town Supervisor Paul Feiner said the town has also applied to Westchester County for an additional $400,000 for advanced flood mitigation planning.

“While the process to get a flood mitigation project of this magnitude shovel-ready and funded is lengthy and difficult, I am very pleased that the town is taking the proactive steps available to provide much-needed flood relief,” he said.
