SOUTHEAST – Ambulance service provider Ambulnz has terminated its contract with the Southeast-Brewster Joint Fire District with just 30 days’ notice.  The bailout is just one more turn in a downward spiral of the ambulance provider that held the Putnam County contract for a mere 18 months when former Putman County Executive MaryEllen O’Dell pushed the contract through, against the advice of many in the emergency services field.

Ambulnz is operated by DocGo, which operates ambulances and provides other medical services in several states nationwide.  DocGo has come under fire from Albany politicians over the company’s handling of a contract to provide transportation, lodging, and services for migrants the company transports from New York City to the capital region.

DocGo Senior Vice-president of Transportation Operations, Stan Gitin, emailed a letter from his Manhattan office to the district on November 3 which states that the contract, in effect since February 18, 2022, will be terminated on November 30.

Commissioners in the Southeast-Brewster Joint Fire District had an inclination that the provider would bail out and added necessary funding to the 2024 budget.
