WAPPINGER – Friday night’s football game between Roy C. Ketcham and John J. High Schools was cancelled as was the Ketcham homecoming because of a specific threat of violence against the Ketcham school community.

Shortly after the threat was made on social media, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office was contacted, the football game was canceled along with the homecoming.

Wappingers Superintendent of Schools Dr. Dwight Bonk saids the individual who made the threat on social media indicated “they were going to bring a gun to the Roy C. Ketcham homecoming game, and that we will see what happens.”

When the threat was received during the school day, the campus was evacuated.

“It is most unfortunate that once again our community has been subjected to a threat of violence against or at one of our schools,” said Bonk. “I would like to reiterate that we         have zero tolerance for activities such as these and am hopeful that we are able to work with law enforcement to  identify the individual responsible and take appropriate legal action as well as action in accordance with the district code of conduct (if applicable).
