TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – A motorcyclist was killed Thursday evening on Violet Avenue (Route 9G) in the Town of Poughkeepsie.  The October 19 accident happened just before 6 p.m. near the intersection of Violet Avenue and Spring Street.

Town of Poughkeepsie Police and deputies from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office had closed Violet Avenue to traffic between Fulton Street and Pendell Road while firefighters from the Fairview Fire Department attempted lifesaving measures on the seriously injured biker.

A witness to the accident told Mid-Hudson News that the motorcyclist was traveling north on Violet Avenue when a vehicle pulled out of Spring Street, in the rider’s path.  The witness said the motorcyclist struck the vehicle and swerved off the shoulder on the east side of the road, where he struck a house.

Over the period of 30 minutes, a group of motorcyclists began congregating at the intersection of Spring Street and Violet Avenue. At least one biker was overcome with emotion and began yelling and kicking the post for the street sign.  One associate of the bikers told Mid-Hudson News that the deceased as well as those gathered to mourn were all members or associates of the Dirty Ones Motorcycle Club out of the Wappingers Falls Chapter.

The Fairview firefighters were assisted at the scene by Empress Ambulance personnel.

While the first responders tried to save the man, officers began taking measurements as part of the accident investigation while the road remain closed to traffic.
