NEW PALTZ- Condé Nast Traveler announced the results of its annual Readers’ Choice Awards, with Mohonk Mountain House recognized as the #1 Resort, in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.

More than 520,000 Condé Nast Traveler readers submitted responses rating their travel experiences across the globe to offer a comprehensive look at the places they eagerly anticipate visiting.  The Readers’ Choice Awards, with their unparalleled legacy as the travel industry’s longest-running and most prestigious accolades, remain the ultimate symbol and acknowledgment of excellence within the travel sector.

“We are pleased to be named the #1 Resort in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic by the readers of Condé Nast.  As a fifth-generation member of the Smiley family, who has owned and operated this beautiful resort since 1869, I can honestly say our founders would be very proud.  Our commitment to provide recreation and renewal in a beautiful, natural setting holds as true today as it did 154 years ago and we could not be more honored to accept this great accolade on behalf of our Mohonk team,” says Eric Gullickson, President of Mohonk Mountain House.

Just last year Condé Nast Traveler sang the praises of properties in the Hudson Valley focused on health and wellness.  In 2022, the property underwent a major renovation to the 30,000-square-foot spa set alongside Mohonk Lake, which led to what Conde Nast Traveler recently dubbed “The Hudson Valley Wellness Boom.”  This included the new Lakeview Summerhouse, a nature-inspired space created with local timber to complement the existing 159 summerhouse structures scattered around the property on the vast network of hiking trails.  The Lakeview Summerhouse was conceptualized by Robert D. Henry Architects and custom-built by Mohonk Mountain House’s talented rustic carpentry team.  The new treatment space is simple in design yet thoughtful in placement and purpose, allowing sweeping views of Lake Mohonk, Sky Top Tower, and the surrounding cliffs. In this new space, guests can receive massages, choose a private yoga class or select a mindfulness session with Nina Smiley, Ph.D., and embrace the health benefits of a spa blended with nature.

Mohonk Mountain House is known to be a foodies’ delight, with a New York Times article recognizing the resort as a “Farm-To-Table” Rebirth, highlighting the area’s local farmers, growers, and paying homage to the rich soil of the Hudson Valley.  Just this past year, Mohonk reintroduced an immersive culinary specialty Chef’s Table, a 9-course tasting menu elegantly served in their busy working kitchen.  Additionally, a new exclusive Wine Pairing series includes a curated five-course menu by Mohonk’s talented chefs, led by Executive Chef Jim Palmeri, with expertly paired wines from around the globe, guided by guest sommeliers.

Mohonk Mountain House continues to be a destination for all ages and loved by families. Mohonk offers over 85 miles of trails for hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing and provides earth-friendly activities and programs that preserve the land and educate guests about the environment.  Exquisite gardens, a nine-hole golf course, tennis courts, an ice-skating pavilion, snow tubing, horseback riding, carriage rides, and a glacial-formed lake ideal for boating, fishing, and swimming also delight guests.

Coming mid-October, Mohonk Mountain House will unveil the very first Via Ferrata at a resort in the Northeast.  The courses officially open Spring of 2024 and will be available exclusively for hotel guests.  Via Ferrata at Mohonk is a guided outdoor adventure activity which combines rock climbing and hiking using fixed anchors and cables. It allows guests the opportunity to traverse challenging terrain with safety equipment, making the experience accessible to a wide range of outdoor enthusiasts in a unique, scenic mountainous area.
