KINGSTON- The YWCA of Ulster County is pleased to announce an upcoming event that will enhance workplace well-being and mental resilience.  On Friday, October 6, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the YWCA of Ulster County will host a “Mindfulness Matters Workshop” led by esteemed board member Dr. B.Nilaja Green.

Mindfulness, a practice rooted in historical wisdom, is increasingly recognized for its positive impact on mental health and emotional resilience.  The workshop aims to equip participants with valuable tools to foster a sense of mindfulness within the workplace, ultimately promoting a healthier and more balanced work environment.
Key Objectives of the Workshop:
Objective 1:  Introduce attendees to the historical roots and functions of mindfulness.
Objective 2:  Describe burnout, compassion fatigue, and emotional resilience.
Objective 3:  Engage in experiential learning and provide skills to apply to daily living and work.

Compassion fatigue and burnout are challenges that often affect professionals who work closely with clients and communities.  Compassion fatigue arises when workers absorb the emotional experiences of their clients, while burnout can develop over time when workers feel continually overwhelmed by demands without adequate resources.  Mindfulness, however, has been proven to significantly reduce stress and anxiety levels while enhancing self-compassion and overall mood, particularly among client-facing workers like healthcare providers.
The YWCA of Ulster County remains committed to providing opportunities for personal and professional development to our community members.  Dr. B.Nilaja Green “Mindfulness Matters Workshop” represents another step toward creating a positive and resilient environment.
