GOSHEN – Several elected officials in Orange County have asked Governor Hochul to appeal FEMA’s denial of individual assistance for county residents of the devastating July floods.

The governor has 30 days in which to appeal the federal rejection.

They are also asking the governor to immediately allocate an additional $3 million in direct financial assistance for those renters and homeowners, without restriction by income, to address the void left by FEMA’s denial.

The local officials said homeowners and renters “without access to flood insurance and lacking personal savings to cover mounting property losses have once again been thrown into a current of uncertainty.”

A letter to the governor seeking her immediate assistance was signed by Senator James Skoufis, Assemblyman Chris Eachus, Highlands Town Supervisor Mervin Livsey, Cornwall Town Supervisor Josh Wojehowski, Cornwall-on-Hudson Village Mayor James Gagliano, and Highland Falls Village Mayor Joe D’Onofrio.
