LAGRANGE – State police say a sleeping teenage driver is the cause of an accident that killed a 54-year-old Long Island man in a head-on collision on Route 55 in LaGrange on Friday afternoon.  State police responded to the crash at 3:40 p.m.

The LaGrange Fire Department responded to the accident on Route 55 west of Route 82 and firefighters were providing medical treatment to Gabriel Bovenzi of Shirley, New York when the police arrived.

The investigation determined that a 17-year-old was operating a 2015 Honda CRV eastbound, fell asleep, and entered the westbound lane striking the car being driven by Bovenzi.

Bovenzi was transported by the Lagrange Fire Department to MidHudson Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

This investigation remains ongoing.
