WHITE PLAINS – The passenger terminal at Westchester County Airport at White Plains is often crowded to capacity during peak air travel time.

The airport is popular because it is right near major corporate world headquarters like IBM and PepsiCo, among others.

County Executive George Latimer acknowledges it is problematic and said a capital plan is being developed to upgrade the facility.

“The demand at certain times of the day is that the physical layout of the airport doesn’t suffice, so if you reconfigure it and modernize it, then you will make it a better experience for the people coming in,” he said.

The terminal seating area is small and there are only a couple of jet bridges.

Latimer said issues with the cramped space at the security checkpoint is a factor of the federal government, created after 9/11.
