GOSHEN – A man who shot two people, a 29-year-old Newburgh man, killing him, and wounding a five-year-old boy, was sentenced in Orange County Court on Wednesday to 25 years in state prison followed by five years of post-release supervision.

Lamont Williams previously plead guilty to manslaughter and assault in connection with the September 29, 2022 incident.

Laquan Corbett, 29, of Newburgh, died from the gunfire.

Williams fled to North Carolina where he was tracked down by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit, the US Marshal Service and North Carolina law enforcement and extradited to New York.

At Williams’ plea proceedings, he admitted to killing Corbett and wounding the boy.

“The significant sentence imposed today underscores the tragic consequences of this defendant’s violent actions,” said District Attorney David Hoovler. “Justice in this case was achieved by the joint and coordinated efforts between the police and prosecutors.”

The DA singled out the “hard-working detectives” from Newburgh City Police who pursued Williams until he was in custody.
