TOWN OF FISHKILL – A pre-dawn shooting Friday in the Town of Fishkill resulted in a Poughkeepsie man sustaining a gunshot wound to the hand, according to Fishkill Police Lieutenant Paul Schettino.  The incident occurred in a Route 52 apartment complex at approximately 2:45 a.m. on July 7th.

Lieutenant Schettino told Mid-Hudson News that town police officers responded to a 911 report of a male that had been shot at 225 Route 52 in Fishkill.  First arriving officers located the victim, 26-year-old David Gilliard in the rear of the building, with a gunshot wound to the hand.  “The victim was uncooperative with our officers yet we performed an investigation despite his lack of cooperation,” Schettino said.

The investigation determined that Gilliard was involved in a domestic dispute with his girlfriend at the location.  The weapon, illegally possessed by Gilliard had been fired twice during the dispute and he unsuccessfully attempted to hide the gun before police arrived.  The firearm was found in the parking lot.  The wounded gunman was taken into custody and transported to Vassar Brothers Medical Center (VBMC) for treatment by EMS personnel.

Lieutenant Schettino said Gilliard was charged with the felonies of reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal contempt.  The girlfriend had a restraining order against Gilliard in place at the time of the shooting.

Gilliard is currently being held for arraignment at VBMC.

Schettino is asking anyone with information regarding this case to call the Town of Fishkill Police Detectives at 845-831-1110.
