Dear Editor,

Last year, after being renters for decades, my husband and I were able to purchase our first home in Ward 1.  Since then, we’ve seen for ourselves how Kingston’s housing crisis forces our neighbors out of their homes.  Home prices and rents are skyrocketing, tenants are being evicted so their apartments can be converted into Airbnb’s, and earlier this month, the Common Council was forced to repeal its Good Cause Eviction law.

Our next alderwoman needs to make housing their top priority.  That’s why, as a homeowner and Democrat in Ward 1, I want to encourage my neighbors to vote for Charlotte Lloyd next Tuesday.  Charlotte is a Stony Run tenant who has lived here for her entire life.  This race is personal for her.  If elected, she’ll fight to strengthen tenant protections, regulate Airbnb’s, and keep Kingston affordable by supporting rent reduction and homebuying programs.

Democrats in Ward 1 can vote early until June 25th at the Midtown Neighborhood Center.  Polls are open on Election Day, June 27th, from 6am to 9pm at Edson Elementary School.  Vote Charlotte!
