SUFFERN – Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is holding an end-of-the-month fundraiser in Rockland County to raise money for his bid to be the Republican presidential candidate next year.  He is expecting to raise big money with the $6,600-a-ticket price tag.

The event is slated to occur at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Suffern.

The June 29th visit to the Democratic district represented by freshman Republican Congressman Mike Lawler (R, NY-17) has a substantial Orthodox Jewish community, which tends to block vote for Democrats, and Lawler has repeatedly intimated that he wants to make changes while also distancing himself from embattled former President Donald Trump.

The Rockland County Democratic Committee is using the DeSantis visit as a call to arms to push back against the controversial Floridian.

Rockland Democratic Committee First Vice-Chair Schenley Vital says that DeSantis is known for “repeated attacks on free speech, democracy, the Black and LGBTQ+ communities, women, and immigrants, as well as his hateful rhetoric,” causing the county Dems to organize a protest against the visit, saying, “Hate has no home in Rockland.”

The peaceful protest, according to Vital, is being held at 4:30 p.m. in front of the hotel prior to the event.  “All concerned individuals – regardless of political affiliation – are invited to join us in standing up against hate, discrimination, and policies that undermine our democracy and harm our communities,” the Democrats said, without citing any specific examples.

Additional information about the protest can be obtained by emailing the Democrats at info@RocklandCountyDems.com.
