Traffic stop leads to drug stash

TOWN OF LIBERTY – A traffic stop on westbound Route 17 in the Town of Liberty on Wednesday afternoon resulted in the arrests of three people and seizure of drugs.

State Police identified the driver as Nicholas Macnaughton, 22, of Syracuse, the front seat passenger and owner of the vehicle, Jack Alt, 21, of Baldwinsville, and a back seat juvenile passenger.

While speaking to troopers, Macnaughton admitted to having over a pound of marijuana in the back seat and the trunk and a search of the 2006 Honda Accord yielded a half-ounce of cocaine in a safe inside the trunk, 3 ½ pounds of marijuana in the back seat and trunk, and over $6,500 in cash located behind the glovebox.

All three occupants were arrested on charges of drug possession and possession with intent to sell. The youth was also charged with another count of drug possession and Alt was charged with criminal possession of cannabis.

Macnaughton and Alt were arraigned and released on their own recognizance and the youth was issued an appearance ticket to Sullivan County Family Court.
