WASHINGTONVILLE – A bullet was found on a Washingtonville school bus after students had gotten off the vehicle on Tuesday.
Village Police Chief Brian Zaccaro said the school district administration and police department worked in identifying the student who was responsible for bringing the bullet onto the bus.
He said no other bullets were located and no weapons were found on school property.
A criminal investigation was conducted by Washingtonville Police with assistance from State Police and any potential criminal liability was conferred with the Orange County Attorney’s Office, the chief said.
“Washingtonville Police Department has partnered with the school district since the beginning of the 2018 school year which has built trust and fostered relationships with students and faculty,” Zaccaro said. “Having police officers on site at each building is paramount and the incident alone should prove the importance of how police officers can take immediate action if necessary. Washingtonville Police are fully committed to the safety of the students and faculty of the district.”
